This was such a special project that I
really enjoyed putting together. I always felt that Rebeka, our oldest
granddaughter, looked so much like her great-great-grandmother, Nannie Hubble McCoy, who was born more than 100 years before Rebeka.
So, in June 2001, I took Rebeka shopping and we put
together an ensemble as closely as we could to match what Nannie was wearing in the
picture that had been taken of her about 1899 or 1900. We even
used a ring from Rebeka's great-grandmother, Mary Elizabeth McCoy Helfrich, to match the
one on the necklace worn by Nannie, and we also got matching rings for
Rebeka's fingers. We then went to a photographer, who went out and
found a wicker chair to match the one in the picture. The end
result, we felt was worth the effort. Rebeka is on the left -
Rebeka is in the center, looking at the picture of her great-great-grandmother, Nannie,
and Nannie's picture is on the right. We hope you see the
resemblance as much as we do.
